Simazine Is Under Attack. Comment by Oct. 4, 2016

The triazine herbicides are currently under EPA registration review. This includes atrazine, simazine and propazine. While the risk assessment of atrazine has caused the greatest amount of interest, EPA’s ecological risk assessment of simazine and propazine are also troubling.

Simazine is an important tool to control weeds in fruits, vegetables as well as crops like field corn. Simazine was reregistered by EPA in 2006. Growers are concerned about EPA’s risk assessment that is not based on credible science and has many errors and uses flawed studies that don’t meet EPA’s own guideline requirements.
